While reading the instructions on how to use my brandy new Hi-Lift jack last night (they suck) it occured to me, that I, as well as others, are making the investment in recovery equipment, etc.. I don't know about others but I learn better by doing the task rather than reading about how to do it.
What would the group think about making a date where newbie's like me could learn how to use this stuff. Where are good lift points on the X for a Hi-Lift? How do use it as a winch? What about strapping another X out of a problem? Maybe have the "class" lead by Gene, Jeff "the installer", Jeff 'rockaholic" or other experienced members. I'd like to learn how to use an electric winch, etc. as well.
Just throwing it out there.
What do you think? unsure.gif

Barry I'd be more than willing to teach anyone how to use these items..We should deffinetly plan this for anyone who's interested.

Thanks Gene. I'm just trying to round out the whole experience. Us 'newbies" are gaining more and more valuable experience on trails runs, etc. but I thinks it's important to know how to extract our vehicles before it's pouring rain and we're stuck in knee deep mud and all the problems that go with that...

Great idea!!

How about "Basic Recovery Techniques and Safety 101." ??

That's a brilliant idea...
The question is "when" should we do this.
Sometime in March when it may be a little warmer? Sooner than that?

I think that's a great idea. We should make those items you listed as bullets, and add to that list.

A warm time would be nice, too, Jeff. Seeing as how this winter is going, we may be able to hold this sooner than we think! biggrin.gif

We should pick a place to do the recovery, too. Somewhere where we'll have plenty of space and no one around, so that we're not interrupting anyone running the trail, and they're not interrupting our lessons.

And we'll need some trucks to get "stuck" in the mud. Hmm... I volunteer Brian's truck. Don't worry, Bri, it won't get too dirty... unless Gene pulls you out with his truck, then he'll be flinging mud all over it. wink.gif

Actually, Brian was asking about going on trail runs at the last "mod" day, so I think he's considering getting it dirty. Of course, he was also asking how he could get power to his power washer on the trail.... tongue.gif nexterra/banging.gif

Seriously, this is going exactly where I was hoping it would. A practical exercise in the woods so that we can learn but be courteous and not impact others. wink.gif

No recomendations unfortunately. Try Amazon for price comparison. I just ordered mine direct from A/C down in Florida, i.e. www.4x4parts.com
You can also order direct from Hi-Lift. Their web site does not shed any more light on using their products than their written instructions, however.
